In his final State of the County address, Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon reflected on the past and challenged the County’s leadership and workforce to complete the work they began seven years ago. He promised a final term devoted to planning and progress. Part of Mayor Corroon’s vision for 2012 includes focusing on regional planning, emergency preparedness, infrastructure reconstruction, our natural environment customer service and improving the quality of life countywide.

“This year will not define the last days of a lame duck administration,” promised the Mayor. “What started as an eight-year marathon in January, 2005 is today a 355 day sprint with a finish line that includes a smooth hand off to the next mayor.”

The Mayor lauded the dedicated county workforce, “I get a lot of credit for what this county government does, but I stand on the strong shoulders of our thousands of employees,” said the Mayor. “Today I want to give a heartfelt thank you to our county employees.  You are the best at what you do—and what you do is serve our citizens,”

He said he’s excited to finish his final year as Salt Lake County Mayor on a high-note, working towards transportation plans, a park bond, LEED certified facilities, including the new District Attorney and Public Health Buildings.

“Decisions made today affect lives tomorrow,” said the Mayor . “Our children and grandchildren will have to live with what we do. That’s why we do not plan for the next year or two – we lay foundations for lifetimes.”
